Generate a hex map from an image

Upload a terrain map image and create an editable hex map. Generation currently converts terrain only.

Before you start

Sign in with a verified email address. CREATE requires Master Cartographer access or gifted access and enough generation credits.

Use a PNG or JPEG up to 32 MiB. Very large images are reduced to at most 2,800 pixels per side.

Only upload images that you have permission to use. Source images and results stay private to your account.

Preview and create

  1. Open My Maps and select Generate AI Map.
  2. Upload your image and name the map.
  3. Choose Original, 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, or a custom aspect ratio. Zoom and pan to frame the source.
  4. Adjust the maximum cells slider. Check the preview's actual tile count and credit charge.
  5. Select CREATE to accept the job and spend credits.

Each started 100 tiles costs one credit. The maximum map size is 500 cells.

Initial paid access grants five credits. Paid accounts receive one credit each week, up to five. The next refill is shown in UTC.

Administrator accounts have unlimited generation credits. Their maps retain the 500-cell limit.

An upgrade preserves your draft. After returning from billing, review the preview and select CREATE yourself.

Find your generated map

Accepted jobs continue when you close the page or your paid access ends. The processing deadline is 30 minutes.

The generated map appears in My Maps and the generation hub. Recent results receive a highlight for 30 minutes.

Other app pages show a completion notice with a map link. Use Dismiss to close it.

The notice stays available during your browser session until you dismiss it. Completion email also links to the saved map.

Open the map to edit its terrain. Generation does not identify points of interest, roads, or rivers.

Compare source and result

Open Profile, then AI map history. Expand View source and original result to compare the uploaded source and generated terrain.

History shows your latest 50 submissions, their times, status and map links. Later edits do not change the original result.

Each card shows the nominal credit cost, actual charged credits and any recorded refund with its reason.

Administrator jobs show their exemption. A refund can be zero when your balance has already reached the cap.

If a job fails

Failed generation returns its credits, subject to the five-credit balance cap. Administrator balances remain unchanged.

Retry a connection failure with the page's controls. An uncertain CREATE retains its request identity to prevent duplicate submissions.

Submitted jobs cannot be edited or cancelled. If credits or generation are unavailable, retry later or contact support.

For ordinary random terrain generation, see Generate terrain.
